The Triathlon is now in its 4th year and is set to become as popular as Llanwrtyd Wells other Bog related events! Sponsored by Young's Bitter, the first ever World Bog Snorkelling Triathlon took place in Waen Rhydd Bog on the outskirts of Llanwrtyd Wells on Sunday 10th July 2005, during the same weekend as the World mountain Bike Bog Snorkelling.
You enter the event for the coveted title of WORLD CHAMPION BOG SNORKELLING TRIATHLETE to obtain this honour you are required to complete a fell run of approximately 12 miles, a bog snorkel of approximately 120 yards through the world famous Bog Trench and a 19 mile mountain bike ride.
THE RUN will take place over undulating countryside with some road bits and a run through Llanwrtyd Wells, the smallest town in Britain, so mainly off road with 'muddy' bits!
THE SNORKEL will take place in two 60 yard long (total distance of 120 yards) four foot deep trenches cut through a dense peat bog. Competitors will require snorkel and flippers (provide your own - none for hire). Conventional swimming strokes are NOT permitted. Flippers must be used for propulsion only and hands used for doggy paddle only - any other strokes - disqualification.
THE BIKE RIDE will take place through undulating countryside, through forestry, rough trakcs and some single tracks; it will be mainly off road with some 'muddy' bits
THE RELAY In addition to individual entries, teams of 3 persons may enter, one person for each discipline. An individual entrant may use the first leg (the run) as part of the relay team entry.
THE GLORY There will be many prizes for individuals and relay teams alike; all competitors who finish will receive some sort of memento!
